Week 4

8 Hours

Monday

Description:

Megan gave me back my edits of my hometown press releases and gave me directions on how to finish them. It took me about two hours of my shift to complete all of the edits. After I finished them I then had to sort them by gender and then count how man males and females there were. I printed “parent letters” for each of the students and a copy of their son/daughters press release. I then placed them all in envelopes as I created mailing labels on a word document. I wanted to get them done so I stayed an extra half an hour to finish them up so Megan could mail them.

Reflection:

It was a relief after I finished my hometowns yesterday. I felt rushed because I was behind from labor day and although my edits were rough, I was happy I got them done. I made sure not to rush on the final versions of the hometowns because I know that if I make a mistake I will have to write an apology to the parents so I was sure that all my press releases were perfect. Hometown press releases are tedious, but helped me realize that I need to pay more attention to AP style rules as the semester goes on.

Wednesday

Description:

When I first arrived at the office I had to run the media advisories around Holloway Hall, which I am 100% comfortable with now. Megan also told me that she finished the edits on the rest of my hometown press releases. I finished those up and printed the labels. After this I sent and posted a press release and PSA.

Reflection:

I made a few mistakes today that could have been avoided, but it is okay because I realize I am still new to these things and getting into the swing of it can be hard.  I forgot to print two labels for the hometowns and when I went to print them I forgot to remove the borders so the labels had lines on them. When sending the press release I also sent it to the wrong group in outlook so I had to spend an extra 20 minutes trying to figure out who received the email and who did not. After this it was around 1:15 and Megan asked if I wanted to leave, but I decided that I wanted to stay to post the press release to the SU website. I followed the directions and posted it to the web without Megan’s help, for the most part. Overall, it was a rough day, but I learned a lot.
